Governor Rosselló joins plea for gun control in the United States
(February 19, 2018 – La Fortaleza, San Juan) Governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, entrusted the Puerto Rico Department of State to organize the March for our Lives, in solidarity with the event that will be held in Washington, DC on March 24.

The activity, initiated in the federal capital, has the purpose of raising awareness about the problems related to uncontrolled access to guns, which has led to multiple massacres. The most recent of these events occurred at a school in the city of Parkland in Miami, Florida.

“We are entrusting the Puerto Rico Department of State with the organization of March for our Lives in Puerto Rico, and extend the invitation to all interested civilians, religious, and private sector organizations to join this expression of our society in a claim to establish greater controls on the acquisition of guns,” said the governor.

The chief executive highlighted that “Puerto Rico is the jurisdiction with the greatest controls in the regulation of permits to possess guns in the United States.”

The governor said it is necessary to raise awareness on the direct relation between uncontrolled access to guns and acts of violence, which end in the massacres that have claimed the lives of innocent people in public institutions and schools.

“As citizens of the United States, the voice of Puerto Ricans will be felt on March 24 in a public demonstration organized by the Government of Puerto Rico, along with all sectors of our society interested in participating,” said the chief executive.

Rosselló concluded by emphasizing that “under our Administration we will remain being a very strict jurisdiction with the procurement of weapons. We will continue to guarantee the safety of our people above all else.”
